About Mozilla Thunderbird

Mozilla Thunderbird is a free, open source, cross-platform e-mail and news client developed by the Mozilla Foundation. The project strategy is modeled after Mozilla Firefox, a project aimed at creating a web browser. On December 7, 2004, version 1.0 was released, and received over 500,000 downloads in its first three days of release, and 1,000,000 in 10 days.

Hello, everyone. My name is Kun-Ying Yang. This tutorial will guide you how to set up secure email on Mozilla Thunderbird through SSL connection.
First, let's open up the email client. Then, you will click on the tools tab. In the drop-down menu, please select Account Settings.
Now I am going to add an email account into this application. By doing that, you will click on Account Actions. In the drop-down menu, you will select Add Mail Account.
It will bring up the New Account Wizard window. In the Your Nametext field, enter in your name, as shown to others. In the Email Address text field, enter in your email address . Here I use my UTmail as an example.
In the Password text field, enter the password to log in your email account. You can select if you want the email client to automatically memorize your password or you can change the setting later. When you are done, click on Continue button.
Now the Mozilla ISP database will automatically fill out possible mail server settings based on the email address you provided. If you find the information is incorrect, you can click on the Manual Config button to bring up advanced edit function and change the mail server settings. When you are done, you can re-test the configuration in real time.
But now I would like to do that manually. Let me show you how to do that. First, let's click on Create Account button. Now you can see the email address you just entered in the interface. It will appear over here.
We are going to change the IMAP server and SMTP server settings. First, we will go to Server Settings. Since I use my Gmail account for this example, I will have to change the server name used in the Gmail.
And then, remember in the User Name text field, you have to enter your full email address instead of only your account name. Underneath the Security Settings, you can see Connect Security and Authentication method.
Here I am going to choose SSL/TLS for my Gmail account connection. And you can notice t he port number will change according to my selection, which is OK. Or, you can reference the information on Google website since I am setting up the connection through Google. Or. if you are unsure about the security option and port number, please consult with your system provider.
Now I am done with setting up the IMAP server settings. I am going to set up the outgoing server as well as the SMTP server settings. When you are here, you can see the email address you entered over here, you will click on the Edit button to bring up the SMTP server window.
The same. You will enter the server name provided by the system provider as well as the port number, the Connection Security and Authentication method.
The same, please remember in the User Name text field, you have to enter in your full email address instead of only your account name. When you are done, please click on the OK button to leave this window. Then, you will click on OK again. Now y ou are ready to send and receive secure email on Mozilla Thunderbird email client through SSL connection.
