Instructional Materials Naming Convention

topic-level_yearmonthdate_document-type.file-extension

Example: word2007-2_20090101_presentation.ppt

ALL lowercase!

NO spaces!

DASHES: Use dashes within a name segment (word2007-1, ssh-ftp)

UNDERSCORES: use underscores between name segments (word_20090101).

Within the folder, the files will sort in this order:

  1. topic (name of software, skill, task, etc) IF software, include version (word2007)
  2. level (such as when offering multiple courses with different skill levels)
  3. date (not semester - because semesters don't sort in chronological order)
  4. document type (print, presentation, images, online)
      • print: anything printed - handout, tutorial
      • presentation: ppt's used in short courses, etc.
      • images: this would actually be a folder containing original images used in the print or presentation files.
      • online: this would actually be a folder containing html pages, associated images, etc.
