How to Use Gmail to Grab your iSchool Email (POP)

First Things First

This tutorial assumes you already:

  1. Have an iSchool email account
  2. Have changed the password from the 4-digit original password
  3. Know your new password

Begin Forwarding!

Log in to your Gmail account. In the upper right-hand corner, click on the Settings link.

Then select Accounts and Imports.

Under Check mail using POP3: click the button Add POP3 email account

Time to Put in your Information

A new window will open asking you to Add a mail account you own. Enter the email address of the account you wish you get mail from. In this case, your iSchool email account. Remember to type it correctly!

Click Next Step.

Choose from the four setting which will work for you. It is not necessary to select any. Click Add Account.

Options for After your Account has been Added

The next option you will be offered is to be able to send email from your iSchool email. While this is not mandatory, it can be a time saver and it is helpful to be able to respond from the email to which the mail was sent (without having to log in to your iSchool account).

Click Next Step.
The next window will prompt you to choose how you would like your name to appear when sending email. Choose wisely!

Click Next Step.
The next window will deal with choosing the SMTP server through which you would like your mail sent. Choose Send through Gmail(easier to set up).

Click Next Step.
The next window will explain that Gmail needs to verify your iSchool address. To do so, they will send an email to your iSchool account with directions on how to proceed. Click Send Verification. The next step will be to log in to your iSchool account through webmail.utexas.edu. Be sure to select ischool.utexas.edu in the drop down Server menu.

Click Log in.
Look for an email from Gmail Team. The subject line will read Gmail Confirmation - Send Mail as [your email address here]. Copy the confirmation code listed in the email.

Go back to your Gmail window. Click through Settings to Accounts and Import. In the Send mail as: section you will have your iSchool email listed with a verify link beside it.

Click verify.
The next step is to confirm verification and add your email address! Enter the verification code from the email Gmail sent to your iSchool account.

Click verify.
In the Send mail as: section under the Accounts and Imports menu, your iSchool email will now appear. From here you can choose which email you would like to be the default email, or the primary email. You can also choose whether to Reply from the same address the message was sent to or to Always reply from default address.
